In one of those surprising moves, the former skipper of Pakistan Younis Khan has rejected the offer to become the head coach for the Under-19 team. However, Khan took the decision after Pakistan Cricket Board not considering his interest to be part of the Colt’s selection panel.
After PCB didn’t consider his demand of simultaneously being appointed the chief selector of the colts set-up, Younis Khan declined rejected the offer to coach Pakistan U-19 team.
With Younis’ composure and great cricketing skills, the youngsters would have felt secured and paved the way for more success for the senior team in the green jersey. However, as it turns out, the former right-hander has turned down the offer.
“The idea was to have a high-profile cricketer work with the junior players on long-term basis instead of the old practice of having lesser known names attached to the Pakistan under-19 side,” a PCB official said.
Younis Khan will not be working with the PCB:
It comes to know that Pakistan Cricket Board doesn’t want to give a dual role to the cricketer. Even though the board is happy to help him out, the rules of Conflict of Interest will not allow them to entertain the proposal of Younis Khan.
“At the moment, it appears that Younis will not be working for the PCB as he has made it clear he wants total independence to work and get results with the junior team,” he added.
Younis played 118 Tests, 265 ODIs and 25 T20Is and amassed over 10000 runs in the longer format. He also led the Pakistan cricket team to the title in the second edition of the World T20I in England in 2009. He retired from international cricket in 2017.
Well, it would have brilliant for Pakistan cricket if Younis Khan has accepted the proposal. It would be interesting to see how the board would solve the issue. Currently, Pakistan’s under-19 trip to Sri Lanka has been postponed due to the recent bomb blasts on Christman Eve.
