Former legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has lauded Yuzvendra Chahal’s mind game to pick MS Dhoni’s wicket during the 25th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

While chasing 170 runs target set by RCB, CSK was already struggling with the early departure of openers while the asking rate was mounting because of the slow start. Contrastingly, RCB’s bowlers were bowling exceptionally well as they didn’t allow CSK batters to take runs easily.

Sachin Tendulkar heaps praise on Yuzvendra Chahal’s master plan against MS Dhoni:

When Dhoni came in to bat, CSK needed 81 runs from 34 balls. He had to play a fiery knock to release the pressure but Yuzvendra Chahal trapped him. Even Sachin Tendulkar was also impressed with the street-smart tactic of the wrist spinner.

MS Dhoni first got a quick run in Chahal’s first ball and then went on to hit for a six off the third ball. He tried to hit a boundary in the last delivery, but the spinner gameplan worked. Dhoni hit the ball hard but didn’t have the power. As a result, the long-off fielder took the catch. Sachin Tendulkar explained that it was a chess move from Chahal.

Tendulkar said that Yuzvendra Chahal bowled deliveries on the leg-stump line with minimum pace and was trying to get a top-edge from Dhoni. But in the last delivery, he bowled wide, and MS Dhoni could not generate the power to send it out of the park.

“MS Dhoni then decided that he would move towards the leg-stump and come line with the ball to play that length on the next delivery but Chahal again used a chess move there and bowled the ball wide of MS Dhoni towards the off-stump.

“MS Dhoni had to stretch him to reach there, he reached the ball but ball hit in the bottom half of the bat and so he could not generate that power in the shot. Long-off fielder took a catch,” Sachin Tendulkar said.

After MS Dhoni’s wicket fall, CSK could not return in the game, and finally, RCB won the match by 37 runs.
