Zaheer Khan Picks His 15-Member Australian Squad For The World Cup
The former Indian left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan has recently predicted the 15-man Australian squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Australia has won the cricket World Cup tournament for most times – five times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015). Apart from Australia, no other team have won the cricket World Cup more than twice. They have also played the most number of World Cup finals as they have played seven World Cup finals.
So, they are always a strong contender for the big tournament. Though currently, they are struggling in international cricket as they are in the sixth position in ODI ranking, many experts still believe that Australia will produce an intense fight in the upcoming World Cup.
England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July. Australia will begin the tournament as the defending champions. Meanwhile, when England last time hosted the cricket World Cup tournament in 1999, Australia won that.
Now, Zaheer Khan has picked up his 15-member Australian squad for the upcoming World Cup. He has some interesting views on his selection.
No David Warner and Steven Smith
Though many experts feel that Australia will be a stronger side with David Warner and Steven Smith‘s inclusion, Zaheer Khan doesn’t believe that. The former Indian left-arm pacer thinks that these two cricketers will have to face tough challenges to make the successful comebacks in international cricket. He feels that they haven’t enough time left to make the successful comeback in the upcoming World Cup. Moreover, Steven Smith’s recent injury has made him more doubtful for the World Cup.
Jhye Richardson can eliminate Josh Hazlewood
Zaheer Khan feels that the Australian team will much remain the same from the present squad for the upcoming World Cup. Talking about some special players in his squad, they are the pacers Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jhye Richardson.
Zaheer Khan believes that the 31-year-old right-arm pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile will get a nod for the World Cup squad. As a surprising choice, Zaheer Khan feels that Jhye Richardson may beat Josh Hazlewood for the World Cup selection. Recently, the young pacer Jhye Richardson has impressed with his bowling performances. Moreover, Zaheer Khan believes that Jhye Richardson’s batting skills will be more helpful for the Australian side in the upcoming World Cup.
Zaheer Khan’s full-member Australian squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup: Aaron Finch (C), Alex Carey, D’Arcy Short, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Adam Zampa, Nathan Lyon/Ashton Turner
