Zaheer Khan Reckons Rohit Sharma Was Not Fit For Test Format

Mumbai Indians (MI) Director of Cricket Operation Zaheer Khan, who was with Rohit Sharma during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, has responded to the shocking statement of Virat Kohli, stating that there was a lack of clarity over the MI skipper’s injury.
Virat Kohli had mentioned that he was hoping for Rohit Sharma to travel with Team India to Australia after he had returned to play for MI. After suffering from hamstring, Rohit missed a couple of matches but returned to play the last three matches, including the final where he scored a match-winning knock. But he didn’t board on the flight for Australia while joined National Cricket Academy (NCA) in India to work on his fitness.
Thus, Kohli has slammed BCCI for not communicating proper information.
Zaheer Khan responds to Virat Kohli’s statement:
Zaheer Khan admits that there might have been communication differences. But as far as fitness issue is concerned, he added that every format requires different levels of fitness, and it was seen that his body reacted differently in IPL 2020 season.
“Yes, communication has been the talking point. But, when you look at different formats of the game, different fitness levels are required. I think in Rohit’s case, communication around that part is simple. His body reacted completely differently in the IPL and was fit enough to play T20 format for Mumbai Indians. He got 70-odd crucial runs in the final as well,” said Zaheer Khan in Cricbuzz live show.
In a recent development, a source has revealed that Rohit will be traveling to Australia to play the Test series and plans are being made. His fitness assessment test will be on December 11.
However, the opening batsman is likely to miss the first Test, which is scheduled for December 17, because of the mandatory 14 days quarantine in Australia. It has also been reported that Sourav Ganguly is talking with Cricket Australia for giving relaxation in the quarantine period for Sharma.
