The Barclays Premier League this season has already completed 6 match-days as clubs all around the country have started to settle into the new season.
There were some interesting games on match-days 6 that provided some thrilling results and kept the fans honest for most of the week. The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham have all bagged all three points while the rest struggled on the night.
Here are 10 talking points from this weekend of Premier League football:
Wayne Rooney the difference?
After back to back losses in the league, Jose Mourinho’s squad were back to winning ways, when they beat Leicester City, the Champions, 4-1 at home this weekend. The biggest difference for the squad was the absence of club captain Wayne Rooney who has become a liability to the squad recently. This performance from the team might see the skipper miss out on the action for some weeks.
Koeman finally was beaten:
After a dream start to their league campaign, Everton went into the game against the Cherries away from home unbeaten. But Eddie Howe’s side managed to hold on to a solitary goal from Stanislas to hand the Toffees their first defeat of the new season.
Benteke wins Palace a couple:
The Eagles completed an improbable comeback at the Stadium of Light on Saturday as they came back from 2-0 down to win the game 3-2 in stoppage time. Former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke found the back of the net in the 5th minute of injury time, leaving David Moyes with yet another loss.
Manchester City continues their juggernaut:
The Etihad outfit have now become the only team to win their first 6 games of the league for 6 years when they beat Swansea City on their trip to the Liberty Stadium this weekend. A brace from Aguero took his tally to 12 goals in all competitions this season and might see him compete with the best in Europe this season.
Rondon spoils Stoke party:
A first-half goal from Joe Allen looked like giving Stoke City their first victory of the new season but a late equalizer from Solomon Rondon gave the Baggies a well-earned point on the night, leaving Mark Hughes with just a point from this game. This result, however, lifts Stoke to the 19th place in the points table.
Son saves Spurs in Kane’s absence:
The White Hart Lane outfit were busy at the Riverside this weekend where Heung Min-Son scored a first-half brace to put the game almost beyond Karanka’s side. However, Ben Gibson pulled one back to set up a nervy finish but the Spurs held on to their lead well and remained at unbeaten to sit at the 2nd place in the points table.
Liverpool on the rise:
Though they failed against newly promoted Burnley, Liverpool were ruthless in this week’s game against Hull City as they won the game 5-1 on the night. Hull were completely dominated and had not real grip on the game as the Reds look like an outfit that will come close to the title this year.
Slaven Bilic in trouble:
The Hammers had a superb season last time around but they are now they are in the 18th place with just 3 points from the first 6 games. They were beaten all ends up by the Saints at the Olympic Stadium and this performance was so poor that Slaven Bilic might have landed himself in trouble at the club.
Burnley gets their second win:
Sean Dyche’s side stunned Liverpool early in the season but were not able to keep up the form recently. However, they were superb at home against Watford this weekend as they put two past Gomez to take all three points from this game. A few more results like this at home will keep Burnley in the top flight for another season.
Arsenal beat Chelsea after 8 years:
The Gunners were not able to defeat their cross-town rivals for a long time but the lack of form for the Blues saw Arsene Wenger’s side demolish them this weekend. Conte’s side had no answers to the slick football from the Gunners in the first half and this performance has left Conte with a lot to work on at the club.
