On Wednesday (14/09/2016) night in the UCL, defending champion Real Madrid edged the visitors Sporting CP with two late goals. Also, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City claimed huge victories while Leicester City claimed their memorable 3-0 victory in their first ever Champions league match. In the historic match between Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco at Wembley Stadium, Monaco claimed a 2-1 victory over the hosts Spurs.
Defending champion Real Madrid edged the visitors Sporting CP by 2-1 with two late goals form Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata. In this Group F encounter, Sporting CP took lead over the hosts Madrid at just beginning of the second half. Bruno Cesar scored for the Sporting CP in the second minute of the final half.
The former Sporting CP footballer Cristiano Ronaldo scored the equaliser goal at 89 minutes through a great free-kick. In the final injury minute of the match, Alvaro Morata stroke for Real Madrid with a perfect header.
In another Group F match, Borussia Dortmund thrashed down the home side Legia Warsaw by 6-0. Mario Gotze launched the visitors Dortmund scoreline at just 7 minute of the match. Then followed by Sokratis Papastathopoulos (15′), Marc Bartra (17′), Raphael Guerreiro (51′) and Gonzalo Castro (76′) while Aubameyang scored the final goal for the visitors at 87 minutes.
Tuesday’s Group C abandoned match (due to heavy rain) between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach was played on Wednesday night. The hosts Man City won by 4-0 over the visitors with the help Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick. Aguero scored his first goal at 8 minutes while he netted the second goal through a penalty at 28 minutes. Aguero completed his hat-trick at 77 minutes while Kelechi Iheanacho enlarged the City’s lead at the injury time of the 2nd half.
In the Group E matches, Monaco beat Tottenham Hotspur by 2-1 while Bayer Leverkusen vs CSKA Moscow match remained a 2-2 draw.
In the record-breaking English club home attendance match between Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco at Wembley Stadium (total attendance – 85,011), Monaco spoiled the hosts party with 2-1 victory. With Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar’s goals at 15 and 31 minutes respectively, Monaco took 2-0 lead over the hosts. Just before the half-time, hosts opened their scoreline with Toby Alderweireld’s header but that was not enough for them to bring the smile for the home fans.
Bayern Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow match remained a 2-2 draw. Admir Mehmedi and Hakan Calhanoglu scored the first two goals for the hosts Leverkusen at 9 and 15 minutes respectively while Alan Dzagoev and Roman Eremenko scored back-to-back goals for the visitors CSKA at 36 and 38 minutes respectively.
In the Group G meetings, Leicester City claimed a memorable historic victory over the hosts Club Brugge by 3-0 while Porto held a 1-1 draw by the 10-man Copenhagen.
Wednesday night match was Leicester City’s first UEFA Champions League match where they claimed a comfortable victory by 3-0 over the hosts Club Brugge. Marc Albrighton scored the first goal for the English team at just 5 minute of the match. Riyad Mahrez scored the next two goals for the visitors at 29 minutes and 61 minutes through a free-kick and a penalty respectively.
Hosts Porto held to draw by the 10-man Copenhagen with 1-1 score. Otavio put ahead the hosts at 13 minutes while Andreas Cornelius equalised the scoreline for the visitors at 52 minutes. Visitors was down to 10-man at 66 minutes, after Jan Gregus was shown second yellow card (was shown first yellow card at 12 minutes). However visitors finally survived from that loss.
In the Group H matches, hosts Lyon beat Dynamo Zagreb by 3-0 [Corentin Tolisso (13′) Jordan Ferri (49′) Maxwel Cornet (57′)] while another hosts Juventus held a goalless draw against the last 3-years UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla.
