On Tuesday (18/10/2016) night in the UCL, defending champions Real Madrid thrashed Legia Warsaw by 5-1. Also Borussia Dortmund, Porto, Leicester City, Juventus and Sevilla all secured victories by 1 goals each against their opponents.
In the Group F clash, hosts Real Madrid thrashed Legia Warsaw by 5-1. Gareth Bale opened the scoreline for Real Madrid in the 16 minutes. 3 minutes later, visitors’ defender Tomasz Jodlowiec scored an own goal as Real Madrid took 2-0 lead on the scoreboard. Real defender Marcelo’s shot deflected Jodlowiec’s foot and entered into the goal after beating Warsaw goalkeeper Arkadiusz Malarz.
Miroslav Radovic tried to bring back the visitors into the match after scoring a goal through a penalty in 22 minutes, but that was not enough. Marco Asensio scored the 3rd goal in the match for the hosts in 37 minutes after receiving a good pass from Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the 68 minutes, Lucas Vazquez scored Real’s 4th goal in the match by firing up Alvaro Morata’s cross into the net. In the 84 minutes, Alvaro Morata successfully netted the 5th goal for Real Madrid.
In another Group F match, Borussia Dortmund beat hosts Sporting Lisbon by 2-1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put ahead the visitors with an early goal at 9 minutes. Just before the half-time, Julian Weigl (43’) extended the lead by 2-0 for Dortmund. Weigl took a low shot from outside the box which entered to the goal after beating the hosts’ goalie Rui Patrício.
In the 67 minutes, Bruno Cesar scored a goal for the hosts from a free-kick which was taken inside the penalty box. Cesar smashed the ball into the goal which was failed to save the visitors’ defenders. However, that goal couldn’t change the match result.
In the Group E matches, all the team shared a point each as both matches were resulted draw. Hosts Bayer Leverkusen held to a goalless draw against the English team Tottenham Hotspur.
On the other hand, hosts CSKA Moscow also drew with Monaco by 1-1. In the 34 minutes, Lacina Traore put ahead the hosts by 1-0. However, Bernardo Silva’s (87’) late goal survived the visitors Monaco as the match ended by 1-1.
In the Group E encounters, Porto beat the hosts Club Brugge by 2-1 with the injury-time penalty goal while Leicester City continued their clean sheet winning streak in their first UCL season as now they beat Copenhagen by 1-0.
Club Brugge took the lead over Porto in 12 minutes with Jelle Vossen’s goal. Miguel Layun scored the equaliser goal for Porto at 68 minutes after taking a high shot from outside the box which successfully netted. At the injury time, Porto wrested a victory through Andre Silva’s penalty goal (90’+2’).
Leicester City continued their impressive form in their maiden UCL season as they maintained their clean sheet winning streak after beating Copenhagen by 1-0. Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal for the hosts Leicester City in 40 minutes. Mahrez successfully netted the ball from Islam Slimani’s headed pass.
With this victory, Leicester City became the first team in this UCL season to assure their spot at least in the UEFA Europa League’s next stage.
In the Group H matches, both the visitors Juventus and Sevilla clinched 1-0 victories against their opponent hosts.
10-man Juventus beat the hosts Lyon by 1-0. In the 54 minutes, Mario Lemina was shown red card for his second bookable offence in this match. In the 41 minutes, Lemina was first time booked in this match. However, still they clinched a victory through the only goal of the match by Juan Cuadrado at 76 minutes.
On the other match, Sevilla beat the hosts Dinamo Zagreb with the only goal from Samir Nasri (37’).
