22-11-2016 UCL Round-Up: Dortmund Win Record 12-Goals Thriller, Real And Juventus Earn Hard Fought Victory 1

On Tuesday (22/11/2016) night in the UCL, Real Madrid and Juventus edged past their opponents Sporting Lisbon and Sevilla respectively through late goals; while Borussia Dortmund clinched a victory in record 12-goals thriller.

In the Group F clash, defending champion Real Madrid edged past 10-man hosts Sporting Lisbon through Karim Benzema’s late goal. On 29 minutes, Raphael Varane opened the scoreline for Real Madrid. The hosts down to 10-man at 64 minutes after their right back Joao Pereira was directly sent off. The hosts equalised the scoreline at 80 minutes through a penalty, which was successfully netted by Adrien Silva. Benzema scored the winning goal for Real Madrid at 87 minutes through a header. With this victory, Real Madrid secured their spot into 2016/17 UCL round-of-16.

In another Group F clash, hosts Borussia Dortmund clinched a victory over visitors Legia Warsaw in record 12-goals thriller. Visitors’’ Aleksandar Prijovic opened the scoreline at just 10 minutes. But Dortmund made an early comeback into the match as Shinji Kagawa (17′, 18′) scored back-to-back two goals and after that it was followed by Nuri Sahin at 20 minutes. After that just 4minutes later, Aleksandar Prijovic scored another goal for the visitors as the scoreline went 3-2, but still in favour of the hosts. Next two goals were scored by the hosts’ Ousmane Dembele (29′) and Marco Reus (32’) as Dortmund were leading 5-2 till the end of first half.

The goal-rain continued in the second half, beginning with Marco Reus scored his second goal at 52 minutes as Dortmund stretched their lead to 6-2. Just 5 minutes later, Michal Kucharczyk scored a goal for the visitors as the scoreline went 6-3. Later, Felix Passlack (81′) and Nemanja Nikolic’s (83′) back-to-back goals for Dortmund and Warsaw respectively made the scoreline 7-4. At the injury time of the match, Warsaw’s defender Jakub Rzezniczak’s own goal recorded the scoreline 8-4 in favour of Dortmund. It is the new highest goal-scoring game in UCL history after surpassing the 11-goals record between Monaco and Deportivo La Coruna (8-3) on 5th November 2003.

In the Group H fights, Juventus beat 10-man hosts Sevilla by 3-1 while Lyon snatched a 1-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

Nicolas Pareja’s (9’) early goal gave the hosts Sevilla a 1-0 lead. But Franco Vazquez’s sent off due to second yellow card forced Sevilla to down 10-man at 36 minutes of the match. At the injury time of the first half, Claudio Marchisio equalised the scoreline for the visitors Juventus through a penalty.

On 84 minutes, Leonardo Bonucci strike gave the visitors a decisive 2-1 lead. At the injury time of the final half, Mario Mandzukic added another goal for Juventus as they clinched 3-1 victory over the hosts.

On the other hand, Alexandre Lacazette’s only goal at 72 minutes produced victories for Lyon over the hosts Dinamo Zagreb.

In the Group E encounters, CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen finished at 1-1 while Monaco beat Tottenham Hotspur by 2-1.

At 16 minutes, Kevin Volland put ahead the visitors Bayer Leverkusen by 1-0 which was equalised for the hosts CSKA Moscow by Bebars Natcho at 75 minutes through a penalty.

On the other hand, Djibril Sidibe (48’) put ahead the hosts Monaco by 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs equalised the scoreline from Harry Kane’s penalty goal at 52 minutes. In the very next minute, Monaco once again went ahead through Thomas Lemar’s goal and this time they hold that lead till the end.

In the Group G match, hosts Leicester City beat Club Brugge by 2-1. Shinji Okazaki (5′) and Riyad Mahrez’s penalty (30′) goals brought 2-0 lead for the hosts. Leicester City conceded their first ever UCL goal at 52 minutes as Jose Izquierdo made the scoreline 2-1 for the visitors, which was sustained till the end of the match.

In another Group G match between hosts Copenhagen and visitors Porto ended a goalless draw.
