Barclays Premier League: Team of the Week: Matchday 5

The Premier League this season is easily the best domestic league in Europe with the amount of talent on show in every team in the league. All 20 clubs in the country have spent big to try and improve their squad and some of the summer arrivals have already made a huge impact on the league. Matchday 5 of the Premier League saw a number of top class performances from players around the country and have provided some high-quality entertainment to the fans. But who were the best XI of the weekend? Here is the team of the week for Matchday 5 of the Premier League:

Goal Keeper:

Heurelho Gomes (Watford):

Though Pickford of Sunderland was equally good, Gomes managed to hold on to his team’s lead against United as he made a string of impressive saves to hand the Red Devils their 3rd consecutive defeat this season.

Defense:

Seamus Coleman (Everton):

Finding the back of the net with an exuberant finish, Coleman was one of the many star players for Everton who managed to pick up their 4th victory this season.

Sebastian Prodl (Watford):

Stuck to his task pretty well at the back as he kept the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford away from danger in Watford’s slim but satisfactory victory over United this weekend.

Scott Dann (Crystal Palace):

Scoring a goal from a center half position for the second game running, Dann, is slowly improving into an all-round defender as he showed in his classy performance in Palace’s victory over Stoke this weekend.

Christian Fuchs (Leicester City):

Was in the middle of most exciting play that Leicester put together on the night and also stuck to his task well at the back to earn his side a clean sheet against Burnley.

Midfield:

Jordan Henderson (Liverpool):

The skipper of the Liverpool side produced a breathtaking moment in the game against Chelsea as he beat Courtois with a  worldie at least 30 yards away from goal. It went on to be the winner for Liverpool as he also managed to keep up his energy in the midfield till the final whistle.

Nacer Chadli (Tottenham Hotspur):

Arguably the best player for Spurs in the 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Sunday, Chadli, who picked up a slight niggle in the game, was superb in the midfield as he controlled the tempo of the game and completely dominated the opposition on the night.

Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal):

Scoring twice in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Hull this weekend, Sanchez is slowly turning into a goal scorer for Arsenal and Wenger will hope that he repeats his performances from this weekend regularly.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City):

The best player in the Premier League so far, De Bruyne, played a part in every goal that City scored against victory over Bournemouth. He is in sublime form and was a joy to watch on the night at the Etihad.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City):

Slowly growing into Pep Guardiola’s style, Sterling, who was his usual self on the night, remarkably added an end product to his game as he helped his side thrash the Cherries on the night.

Attack:

Islam Slimani (Leicester City):

The club record signing for Leicester City, Islam Slimani, made a huge statement on his debut in the league scoring a brace in the victory over Burnley. He was brutal and hard to stop on the night and will be a star for Leicester City in games to come.
