Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to reunite with Lallana, 28, who he managed at Southampton who sold him to Liverpool for £25 million in 2014. Lallana along with Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren was one of three Southampton to move to Liverpool during that summer.
And he has revelled in a more central midfield role under Jurgen Klopp this season and already has seven goals to his name.
He still has two more years left to run on his £60,000 a week deal and is set to be given parity with highest earners James Milner and Daniel Sturridge.
The pair pick up around £120,000 a week and Lallana is set to earn the same when he puts pen to paper on his new deal to stop him from moving to Tottenham.
Lallana is now seen as one of the best midfielders in Europe and has been attracting the interest of some of the biggest clubs on the continent.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain have taken a look at him while White Hart Lane chief Pochettino has him at the top of his wanted list.
Nevertheless, Pochettino is said to have him at the top of his transfer shortlist as he still hopes to strengthen his midfield and add more creativity, but any move for Lallana this month could now be scuppered if he puts pen-to-paper on a new deal with Liverpool.
As a result of the interest, Klopp wants the Anfield hierarchy to tie him down to a long-term contract to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
