CONMEBOL WC Qualifiers Round-Up: Brazil Beat Argentina; Uruguay, Peru And Venezuela Secure Victories
In the round 11 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification from CONMEBOL zone, Brazil beat their arch-rival Argentina by 3-0 while Uruguay clinched a 2-1 victory over Ecuador. On the other hands, Venezuela finally claimed their first victory in this qualification round as they heavily defeated Bolivia by 5-0. Also Peru beat Paraguay by 4-1 while Chile earned a goalless draw against Colombia.
In the day’s high-voltage match, hosts Brazil cruised a 3-0 victory over Argentina. Philippe Coutinho opened the scoreline for Brazil in 25 minutes after scoring a powerful goal from outside the box. At the injury time of the first half (45’+1’), Neymar scored the next goal for Brazil. After receiving a through ball from Gabriel Jesus, Neymar calmly netted the ball.
At 58 minutes, Paulinho extended Brazil’s lead to 3-0. Renato drove the ball to Paulinho after receiving a cross from Marcelo, Paulinho made no mistake to score from that. At the end, Brazil won this match by 3-0. With this victory Brazil stayed at the top of group table while Argentina has now big headache after this defeat as they are currently out from top 5 position of the points table.
In the other game, hosts Uruguay beat Ecuador by 2-1. Sebastian Coates scored the first goal of the match for Uruguay at 12 minutes after receiving a cross form corner. On 44 minutes, Felipe Caicedo equalised the scoreline by 1-1. A minute later, Diego Rolan scored the first half injury time goal for the hosts as hosts took 2-1 lead till the end of the match.
Paraguay suffered a home defeat against Peru by 4-1. On 10 minutes, Cristian Riveros put Paraguay ahead by 1-0. In the second half of the match Peru totally dominated over the hosts on the pitch. Christian Ramos leveled the scoreline at 4 minutes of the second half. Edison Flores (71′) and Christian Cueva (79’) scored the next two goals for the visitors as the visitors took healthy 3-1 lead over the hosts. Paraguay’s forward Edgar Benítez’s own goal at 84 minutes cost another goal for the hosts over visitors.
Venezuela finally secured their first victory in this qualification round after they beat Bolivia by 5-0 with the help of Josef Martinez’s hat-trick. Jacobo Kouffaty gave an early lead (3’) to the hosts Venezuela while next 3 goals were scored by the hat-trick man Josef Martinez (10’, 67’ and 70’). Romulo Otero put the final nail at 74 minutes as the hosts achieved 5-0 victory over the visitors.
Day’s first game between hosts Colombia and visitors Chile was ended a goalless draw.
