The Belgian international was bought from Bundesliga team Wolfsburg for a club record fee of £54 million by Manchester City. The transfer also made de Bruyne the second most expensive footballer in Britain at that time. The hefty fee broke City’s previous record of £49 million that it paid to Liverpool for Raheem Sterling.
