FA Suspend Tottenham Starlet Dele Alli For The Rest of The Season

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli’s Premier League season seems to be over after accepting a Football Association charge of violent conduct.

As per DailyMail, a punishment for the violent conduct the PFA Young Player of the Year will receive a three-match ban, which means the youngster will not feature in Tottenham’s final fixtures.

A major blow to the Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, but the 44-year-old is refusing to bow down to the league leaders Leicester City, with three games still left in the title race.

Though referee Mike Jones missed the incident on Monday’s 1-1 draw at the White Hart Lane.

But the TV footage of the first half of that match clearly exposes how Alli threw a punch into the West Brom midfielder Yacob’s stomach and thus the FA have decided to make a quick decision to suspend the midfielder.

A statement read: ‘Dele Alli has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

‘The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in an incident with West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob in the 26th minute of the game last night (Monday 25 April 2016).

‘He has until 6pm on Wednesday 27 April to reply. Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite referees.

‘Each referee panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence. For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.’

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino suggested after the match that Alli had become a target for provocation.

‘I hear some comments but I have no time to see the action,’ Pochettino said.

‘Sometimes the opponents find him and try to provoke, they know he has a strong character and may react.

‘I don’t know what has happened, we will see. I have nothing to comment now but Dele has a strong character if you wind him up.’

Shockingly, it is not the first time that Dele Alli has been involved in a controversy for an off the ball incident, as he intentionally kicked Fiorentina’s Nenad Tomovic during a Europa League tie in the month of February. The former MK Dons midfielder was lucky enough to get away with just a yellow in the last-32 tie.

Pochettino said he noticed nothing during the match but he will surely watch the video footage of the incident. Dele Alli has emerged as a great talent this season, apart from his brilliant goals and assists he also has 11 yellow cards!
