Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has advised the club to go all out and secure the services of Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the summer. Kane has proved his ability as one of the most prolific scorers of this generations, even at par with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez. However, for all his goals, and the newly found creative touch, Harry Kane is still without a piece of silverware at both club and country.

Kane’s only highlight at Tottenham has been reaching the Champions League final back in 2019, eventually losing to Liverpool. With no trophies across his decade-long spell at Spurs, Ferdinand has insisted that this is the perfect time for United, who are yearning for a 20-goal-per-season striker since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. While Anthony Martial is still an option, it has been evident that the Frenchman is never going to rack up the 20+ numbers and hence, a player of Kane’s stature is needed.

Ferdinand sees United’s striker problems for next ‘three to four years’ solved with Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been a subject of interest for many of Europe’s top clubs since the last couple of years. United themselves were linked with a move for the 29-year-old before going for Ronaldo. Their local rivals Manchester City too were ready to pay a staggering £150m for the striker in the summer of 2021. However, Tottenham chairman held out on his £200m asking price, which was rather a tactic to fend-off interest from City.

German giants Bayern Munich too teased with a move for Kane last summer, after Lewandowski left for Barcelona. However, it was quite clear that the Bavarians were never going to pay a triple figure fee for the England captain. Time is running out for Kane who is approaching his 30s, but is still without a winner’s medal. Ferdinand, speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel urged United to swoop in for Kane, as he said:

“Get Harry Kane in. Spurs fans, I’m sorry. You’re not going to win anything. He’s not going to win anything at Spurs. They’re in a bit of turmoil at the minute. Man United, if you’re going to go in the summer: ‘Let’s go and find a number nine for the next three or four years to hang our hat on, to get 20-25 goals a season every year,’ where are you going? You’re going to have to pay big money for Harry Kane. But at least you know you’re getting a man who gets 20-25 goals a season. So Harry Kane can’t be going anywhere but Man United.”

Harry Kane’s numbers speak for himself, having recorded a stunning 265 goals and 62 assists in 462 appearances for Spurs till now. However, the 327 goal involvements have not yielded a single trophy either for the club or the striker. Moreover, its not the first time he has been urged to leave North London in order to win titles which would further cement his legacy. Many pundits and former players have already advised the England international to not fall for emotions for the club and rather bid farewell.

On the other hand, Kane to United seems a perfect fit given the Red Devils need a player like him up front. Kane is a lethal finisher, and the kind of striker United are missing. While Ronaldo was their top goalscorer last season with 24 in all competitions, Harry Kane had outranked him with 27 in 50 games in all competitions for Spurs. Although Tottenham’s more regular qualification for the Champions League did influence Kane to stay at the club, United too are looking set to return to the competition next season, which could help them lure the striker whose current deal will have only 12 months left on it at the end of the season.
