Late Penalty Helps Everton To Snatch A 1-1 Draw Against United

Late penalty helped Everton to secure a 1-1 draw against the visitors Manchester United. Just before the half-time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Leighton Baines equalised the scoreline for the hosts at 88 minutes from penalty.

Apart from the Zlatan’s goal, the first half of the match was not much entertaining for the football fans.

United escaped from an early red card, when defender Marcos Rojo stroke badly with his two feet on Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye at 16 minutes. That caused a free-kick for the hosts and referee Michael Oliver only showed a yellow card to Argentinian defender.

Following from that set piece, Ashley Williams unlished a headed pass to Tom Cleverly whose inaccurate volley found De Gea’s arms.

Resulting a solid counter attack on 21 minutes, Bolasie produced a dangerous cross to fellow Lukaku but Jones’ timely header cleared that danger successfully.

In the 26 minutes, Bolasie made a grounded cross but failed to find any fellow player.

Before Ibrahimovic’s goal, both goalkeepers had nothing work to do on the pitch. On 42 minutes, Hosts’ goalie Stekelenburg’s blundered caused a clever goal from Ibrahimovic.

Stekelenburg unnecessarily rushed down towards Ibrahimovic when Martial generated a ball to former Swedish star. As a result, Ibrahimovic just chipped over the Stekelenburg’s head towards the open goal. After hitting the upper and right post, the dropping ball just crossed the goal-line before Everton defender Mori cleared the ball.

In the very next minute, Stekelenburg beat Mkhitaryan in a race battle which ended up in a throw in.

The first half ended with 1-0 lead for the visitors. At the end of the first half, the hosts failed to put any ball on target while United only had the goal for their talking moment.

In the second half, Everton was gradually putting pressures into United’s defence and keeping busy to United’s goalie David De Gea. But De Gea’s alertness made harder for the hosts to break the deadlock. On the other hand, United’s attacks were failed to find at least another shots on target.

On 53 minutes, Blues’ winger Mirallas shot was saved by the visitors’ goalie’s right leg.

At 60 minutes, Herrera’s shot hit on the left bar as the hosts survived from any other damage. Six minutes later, Martial’s cross found Paul Pogba whose header went out over the post.

At next, United’s Spanish goalkeeper made two back-to-back save along with great presence of mind.

At 81 minutes, hosts’ substitute Enner Valencia’s close header was once again saved by De Gea. Holgate’s cross found Valencia whose further header went straight to De Gea.

The hosts won a crucial penalty at 87 minutes after United’s substitute Fellaini made an awful mistake. Fellaini made a silly challenge on Gueye inside the penalty box which forced the hosts’ midfielder to fall down. As a result, the Blues were awarded a penalty. Bains converted that penalty to a match-saving goal, after making a low shot at the left-corner which was out of reach for the United’s goal-keeper.

After that, there were very few actions till the end of the match as the final scoreline was 1-1.

With this result, United (21 points) goes up at no.6 in the EPL points table while Everton stayed at no.8 position (20 points).
