Latest FIFA World Ranking: Top Performing International Teams Jump Up; India Slightly Goes Down
On Thursday (25th July), the FIFA released World Ranking for July. Belgium has maintained its leading position, while the recent international trophy winners and other top-performing teams climbed up in the ranking.
Most of the CONMEBOL sides shined in the FIFA ranking
The 2019 Copa America winners Brazil climbed up to the second position (from the third position). Meanwhile, the previous second-positioned team France (from UEFA) slipped down to the third position.
Peru, the runners-up of 2019 Copa America, is standing in the 19th position after managing to get two places up. The third and fourth-placed teams in the recent Copa America, Argentina and Chile respectively, also finished in the better position. In the latest ranking, Argentina is in the 10th position (+1), and Chile is in the 14th position (+2).
Among the CONMEBOL sides, Venezuela and Colombia, both the 2019 Copa America quarter-finalists, were the best two movers in the ranking table. Venezuela earned seven better positions (current position 26), and Colombia managed five better places (current position 8).
Meanwhile, Bolivia got the worst experience among the CONMEBOL sides as they lost 11 positions. In the latest FIFA ranking, Bolivia is standing in the 73rd place, who was the only team to finish with 0 points in the 2019 Copa America.
The Two Asian teams Japan (present position 33; -5) and Qatar (present position 62; -7), who also participated in the latest Copa America, faced the decline in this ranking.
CAF brought the best and worst movers in the July FIFA ranking
On the other hand, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations created the best and worst movers in July FIFA ranking. In this ranking, the champions Algeria were the best mover as they finished 28 ranks higher from the previous position by adding 117 points. Algeria is now in the 40th position in the latest FIFA ranking.
Burundi is the worst mover in the latest ranking after getting down to 14 ranks as they are currently standing in 148th position. Playing in the Group B of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Burundi finished in the last place with 0 points. In that tournament, Burundi was the only side to fail to open their goal-scoring account.
Among the other top Africa Cup of Nations’ teams, Senegal, Nigeria etc. have also earned better rankings. The runners-up Senegal is leading the CAF ranking table with 20th overall ranking (+2). Third-placed Nigeria jumped to the 33rd position (+12), but fourth-placed Tunisia dropped down four positions (current ranking position 29).
Among the CONCACAF teams, Haiti surprised
The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup champions Mexico and runners-up the USA both climbed up in the latest FIFA ranking. Mexico is now the 12th-ranked side (+6), while the USA finished eight positions better to 22nd place.
However, among the CONCACAF teams, Haiti was the best mover. The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finalist Haiti is now in the 83rd position after climbing up 18 places.
India lost two places
India hosted the 2019 Hero Intercontinental Cup where Syria, Tajikistan and North Korea participated along with the hosts. Syria and India both moved down in the rankings while the champions North Korea and the runners-up Tajikistan moved up in the rankings.
From their previous 101st position, India slipped down to the 103rd position due to losing twice and drawing once in that home tournament. Syria also dropped two places as they are now standing in the 87th position.
In the meantime, North Korea (+4) and Tajikistan (+1) are now in the 118th and 119th positions respectively.
