Premier League giants Manchester United have joined the race to sign Everton youngster John Stones this summer. Defending champions Chelsea were linked strongly with the defender last week and it was also reported that a bid of £20 million was rejected by the Toffees.
The young English defender had a fantastic season with Everton last time and grabbed several eye-balls. He had intimidating stats to support his cause and he also earned a national team call from Roy Hodgson.
Manchester United are in search of good center back who can provide a balance to their star studded squad. Defense has been a very big issue of concern for Louis van Gaal since last season. They had bought 3 left-backs and Marcos Rojo played in the central defense for most of the season. The Red Devils are strongly linked with defenders like Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos and Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi. But Madrid have clarified several times that Ramos wll not be sold this season. Sergio Ramos was alos nominated as the captain of the club after Iker Casillas left.
Otamendi deal is yet to be confirmed by Valencia. If neither of the deals actually work out for United, the club will go all out for John Stones.
John Stones has already stirred up comparisons with John Terry and it is believed that the defender might be a long term replacement of the Chelsea legend at both country and the club. Jose Mourinho is keen on signing the player and now that United have joined the race the transfer will get spiced up in the coming days.
