The Manchester United recruitment staff is growing confident that they can finally land their long term target Harry Kane in the summer. The Red Devils have wanted the Tottenham star, who has been price tagged at £100m by club chairman Daniel Levy since a long time now, and this summer could be it for them. Kane too has achieved some remarkable feats at the club with the most recent being becoming their all-time topscorer, but a trophy has eluded him since joining the club.
Harry Kane would be turning 30 in July this year, and despite playing football at the highest level, scoring a stunning 201 Premier League goals, the England captain is still without a piece of silverware at club level. His loyalty to Spurs has been often lauded, but hasn’t yielded a winner’s medal. With his current deal expiring in the summer of 2024, a move away from Tottenham is now highly likely for Harry Kane.

United reckon they can sign Harry Kane for cut price if Spurs lose out on Champions League
Manchester United believe if Tottenham finish outside the top four this season and subsequently miss out on Champions League football, they will sign Harry Kane this summer. While Spurs currently sit fourth in the league with 45 points, they still have played a game more than Liverpool who are on 42 points in the fifth and two more than sixth placed Newcastle who have 41 points. And with their inconsistent form, it is pretty much likely that Spurs miss out on Champions League football next season.
As a result, Old Trafford executives believe that if Spurs don’t qualify for the Champions League, they will will have to lower their £100 million asking price for Harry Kane. Levy has been wanting a triple figure fee for his striker, but United believe no Champions League football, plus the 29-year-old himself wanting a move away could close a deal in the range of £70m to £80m.
Moreover, United have had made the first breakthrough by approaching Kane’s team through a third party and have been encouraged by the response. There is a belief that Harry Kane has a better chance of finally winning a trophy at United than at Tottenham, despite the fact that United were crushed 7-0 on Sunday at Anfield. Erik ten Hag’s men have already won a trophy this season, by lifting the Carabao Cup, and are in pole position to qualify for the Champions League as they sit third in the league.

A new deal at Spurs has ‘not been much talked about,’ revealed Kane in January, but he that he was ‘confident there will be conversations over the coming months’. Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are no longer in the running, after having failed to land the striker in 2021. Since then, they have added Erling Haaland, who is competing for the Golden Boot with 27 Premier League goals.
While United’s own Marcus Rashford of has 14 league goals this season, Harry Kane has netted 18. However, the Red Devils require another goal scorer to propel them towards title contention next season. Cristiano Ronaldo left in November, and his replacement was Wout Weghorst, who was signed on loan from Burnley. In 14 games, however, Weghorst has scored just one goal. Harry Kane has been often tipped as a perfect candidate to lead United’s attack, and a tie-up in the summer is looking highly likely.
