Manchester United have moved ahead with the possibilities of signing Argentine goal keeper Sergio Romero on a free transfer this summer.

According to Sky Italia, Manchester United are set to go head to head against AS Roma for Romero’s signature. Di Marzio has also confirmed contract offers for the 28-year goal keeper.

According to Di Marzio, Manchester United have made a €2million per year offer while AS Roma have offered Romero a contract worth €1.3m per year.

However, Roma are promising Romero a first team opportunity, whereas, United have confirmed that Romero will only be a second choice to either David De Gea or Victor Valdes.

Romero, 28 has been frustrated at the lack of playing time at AS Monaco where he has been the second choice keeper to Daniel Subasic.

Romero has emerged as one of the most reliable goal keepers in the world after his FIFA World Cup 2014 and Copa America final appearances for his national side Argentina.

Manchester United are yet to sort out their goal keeping issues as De Gea’s future still looks uncertain at the club. Despite joining United’s pre-season camp in United States, talks are at an all-time high for his exit from Old Trafford.

According to Marca, it is only Louis Van Gaal who can stop De Gea from joining Real Madrid this summer as the Los Blancos have already started looking for potential replacements to David De Gea.
