Manchester United have fully committed to signing a new goalkeeper to replace Real Madrid-bound stopper David de Gea. Fresh reports have emerged that Ajax has allowed Manchester United to negotiate a move for Netherlands goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
Journalist Duncan Castles wrote an article for ONE World Sports, in which he claimed that the Dutch giants are ready to sell Cillessen if United meet the asking price for their prized stopper. This fee is reported to be around €25million, which is roughly the same price United would have to pay for Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris.
Jasper Cillessen was also the preferred starter during Louis Van Gaal’s tenure as head coach of the Netherlands national football team, ahead of Ken Vermeer, Tim Krul and Michael Vorm. He played in all 7 matches for the Oranje during their 2014 World Cup campaign, in which they finished 3rd. He has won 23 caps for the Netherlands so far. He has also won the Eredivisie three times in a row with Ajax (2012, 2013 and 2014). His performance for Ajax earned him the AFC Ajax Player of the Year award for the 2014-15 season.
