He is the first choice for club and country at the moment and though he did not have a successful Copa America campaign, he helped Atletico Madrid to the Champions League only to lose to a goal in extra time.
There is hardly a striker in Europe that has beaten him in a one on one situation making him exemplary while his discipline also helps his side in crunch times. Surely, he is one of the best defenders around in Europe at the moment.
