Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United EFL Cup Preview: Team News, Injury Update, and Predicted Line-ups and Result

Both London giants are up against when Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the EFL Cup fixture on Wednesday night. Tottenham Hotspur recently returned to the football pitch after missing three fixtures to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United EFL Cup Preview:

Tottenham Hotspur

North London giants escaped with a lucky 2-2 draw at home against Liverpool in the Premier League fixture last Sunday. They were playing football after missing the last two weeks to Covid-19, so there was obvious fatigue within players. Club captain Harry Kane scored an early first-half goal to give his side a lead. But the Reds scored two comeback goals to register important 3 points but were denied by star forward Heung-Min Son. Then Liverpool witnessed Robertson getting off for a clumsy challenge on Emerson. This was a frustrating result for the Liverpool fans, who felt Kane should have gotten a red card for his horrific tackle in the first half. Liverpool also lost 2 crucial points in the title race as well.

Tottenham Hotspur will not be pleased with their performances but they will be satisfied with a point against Liverpool. They are now knocked out of Europa Conference League yesterday after suspending their last group fixture against Rennes. Spurs reported that 8 first-team players were tested positive for the Covid-19 test. So they were advised to shut the operation by the health ministry. But UEFA declared that the match will be suspended only after the club were not able to field 13 players. They handed 4 points to Rennes and barred Spurs out of the league. Tottenham management and fans are very loud against this unfair and controversial decision and club is also looking to appeal this one.

Tottenham sit in the 7th position in the league table with 26 points, 6 points behind 4th placed Arsenal, who have played three more games than their neighbors. So finishing in the top four will be a high priority for manager Antonio Conte. They enter the EFL Cup quarter-finals after beating Burnley in the Round of 16. They will enter the semi-finals for the joint record of 17 times with Liverpool if they beat their London rivals on Wednesday.

West Ham United

West London giants are started slipping after their terrific start to the season. They have won just one match in their last six league matches. Still, they sit at 5th position in the league table with 28 points in 17 league matches, just 4 points behind 4th placed Arsenal. So finishing in the top-4 or top-6 will be a big season for David Moyes.

The Hammers are also impressing the European competition this season. West Ham suffered a 0-1 home defeat in the Europa League group stages’ last match two weeks ago. But still, they finished group as toppers and will be excited about the next round to finish their trophy round at the London Stadium.

West Ham have a new habit of beating big clubs this season. They have won against the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and today’s opponent Tottenham Hotspur already this season. They also beat Manchester United and Manchester City to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL CUP. So it will not be a surprise if they beat their neighbours today and enter the next round. West Ham have not won any silverware in the last 31 years. So they will be aiming for EFL Cup and Europa Cup trophies with their full strength. West Ham United have a good record in EFL Cup against Spurs with 2 away victories in the last 2 matches.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United EFL Cup Team News & Injury Update:

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs had a good break of 14 days before facing Liverpool at home last Sunday thanks to the Covid-19 outbreak. But they are now facing 4 matches in the next 9 days. Finishing in the top-four will be a priority for the Spurs so Conte will be making a good number of changes for the West Ham clash.

Conte has confirmed that all players are tested negative before the Liverpool game. Star defender Cristian Romero will be the only long-term injury absentee for the Spurs. The English full-back Ryan Sessegnon picked up a minor injury against Liverpool, so he is ruled out of this match.

Joe Rodon and Lucas Moura could feature against West Ham to get some game time. Club captain Harry Kane will be rested for the big Premier League week ahead, so Son will be leading the frontline on Wednesday. Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks will be starting in the midfield.

West Ham United enter this fixture after a week, so we can expect a strong eleven from Moyes. The Hammers are facing defensive injury woes for this fixture. Regular right-back Vladimir Coufal is suspended after getting a red card against Arsenal in their last match. Back-up option Ryan Fredericks is also out injured, so we can expect Harrison Ashby taking a right-back role, who made his debut against Arsenal.

Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma, and Aaron Cresswell are also out injured, but the latter can make an appearance from the bench as he is close to returning. Fringe players Andriy Yarmolenko, Nikola Vlasic, Mark Noble, and Manuel Lanzini will start in midfield to get some gaming time before the busy Premier League schedule.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United EFL Cup Predicted Line-ups and Result:

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Sanchez, Rodon, Davies, Tanganga, Winks, Skipp, Ndombele, Reguilon, Bergwijn, Son.

West Ham United: Areola, Ashby, Dawson, Diop, Masuaku, Kral, Noble, Vlasic, Lanzini, Fornals, Yarmolenko.

Predicted Result: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 West Ham United.

West Ham United will fancy this one despite their struggle with injuries. They have won the last two away matches to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will be looking to make it three. It will not be an easy task because Spurs are looking to end their trophy drought since 2007-08.
