Tottenham Hotspur want a £100 million up-front payment for Harry Kane if the striker is to be sold this summer, in a take-or-go offer. According to the Times, despite being in the final year of his contract, the North London club will only consider selling their star striker for a massive triple-figure fee. Manchester United are reportedly the frontrunners who are chasing Harry Kane as the Red Devils are looking to add a world-class striker to their lineup post Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit in late 2022.

United too have drawn up a list of their own which includes Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko, including homegrown talent Harry Kane. The England captain undoubtedly tops their priority list as Erik ten Hag has asked for a Premier League-ready striker to lead his attack alongside Marcus Rashford. While Tottenham have set their asking price at the magical figure of £100m, United too are apparently ready to break the bank for a world-class striker.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane demand a blow to United

While there was never a doubt Tottenham will ultimately demand a handsome pay cheque for Harry Kane, their latest ‘terms and conditions’ of a £100m payment up-front has blown a dent to United’s pursuit. Given that the England international had only one year left on his contract with Spurs, United would have hoped for wrapping up a deal with a low-ball offer.

However, as has been the case throughout his Tottenham career, Daniel Levy is hesitant to let his biggest asset go so easily. The north London club believes that rejecting an offer in installments will deter United from pursuing a move for the striker. Tottenham are aware that United do not want to be involved in lengthy negotiations since it would put on hold the Red Devils’ plans to reinforce their attack.

Tottenham have already have provided a testament of their resistance, when rejecting Manchester City’s £75 million offer for Kane in 2021, which would later increase to £100 million with add-ons. However, club chairman Daniel Levy believes the club does not have to sell him this summer if he does not commit to a new contract. For instance, Tottenham sold Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan with only six months left on his contract.

If United pay Levy his asking price for the striker in one lump sum, it would be their record transfer fee for any player. Moreover, the Premier League star has undoubtedly piqued the interest of clubs from both at home and abroad, with the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich interested as well. However, Tottenham believe Kane would prefer to stay in England and break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record of 260.

Harry Kane currently has 204 Premier League goals to his name, and is Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 271 times for the club. But all those goals have been for nothing since he is yet to win a trophy at the club he has been loyal to. With City’s star striker seemingly locked in for at least a few more years after Haaland’s arrival, United could be interesting suitors for Kane.

However, with Levy determined to keep his man and Ten Hag eager to fill the star-studded void in his attack in the upcoming transfer window, the everything may not go as planned for both the clubs and the player. According to The Times, Tottenham are open to the possibility of Harry Kane leaving the club without a fee in 2024. Although they remain confident he may pen an extension if he hasn’t broken the Premier League record by the end of his contract.
