In the 6th round matches of UCL 2016-17, Barcelona and Arsenal clinched big victories through the hat-tricks of Arda Turan and Lucas Perez respectively; while Bayern Munich finally avenged their away defeat to Atletico Madrid.
In Group A encounters, Arsenal beat host FC Basel 4-1 with a hat-trick by Lucas Perez while another PSG played a thrilling 2-2 draw against Ludogorets Razgrad.
Lucas Perez’s hat-trick (8’, 16’, 47’) helped Arsenal to take a 3-0 lead against the hosts Basel. Later, Alex Iwobi extended the visitors lead to 4-0 on 53 minutes while Seydou Doumbia scored the only consolation goal for the hosts in 78 minutes.
On the other hand, Angel Di Maria’s injury time goal rescued PSG from a defeat against visitors Ludogorets Razgrad. On 15 minutes, Virgil Misidjan put the visitors ahead 1-0 which was answered by Edinson Cavani from PSG on 61 minutes. The visitors once again took a lead 1-2 through Wanderson’s goal. In the injury time of the match (90’+2’), Di Maria scored the rescue goal for PSG as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
In the end, Arsenal (1st) and PSG (2nd) progress in the next round of this competition while Ludogorets Razgrad enters in UEFA Europa League’s round of 32 via a third place finish.
In the Group C matches, hosts Barcelona clinched a 4-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach while Manchester City drew against Celtic 1-1.
Messi put Barcelona ahead 1-0 on just 16 minutes which was followed by the second half hat-trick of Arda Turan.
On the other hand, two early goals from the both sides resulted in a 1-1 draw between the hosts Manchester City and visitors Celtic. Patrick Roberts took the visitors into a 1-0 lead on just 4 minutes which was replied by the hosts’ Kelechi Iheanacho 4 minutes later.
In Group C, Barcelona (1st) and Manchester City (2nd) advance to the round of 16 of this competition while Borussia Monchengladbach books their berth in UEFA Europa League’s round of 32.
In the Group D clash, host Bayern Munich beat Atletico Madrid in the returning leg match through the only goal of Robert Lewandowski (28’). In the previous leg of the ongoing UCL season, hosts Atletico had beaten Bayern by the same margin.
On the other hand, hosts PSV Eindhoven were held to a goalless draw against Rostov in another Group D encounter.
Atletico Madrid (1st) and Bayern Munich (2nd) advance to the round of 16 of this competition while Rostov enters in UEFA Europa League’s round of 32 and PSV Eindhoven crashed out.
In the Group B matches, visitors Napoli edged the hosts Benfica by 2-1 while Dynamo Kiev routed 9-man Besiktas 6-0.
Napoli got 2-0 lead with Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens’ goals at 60 minutes and 79 minutes respectively. Benfica reduced the lead through a late goal from Raul Jimenez (87’) but failed to save the match.
On the other hand, Dynamo Kiev clinched their first victory of this tournament after annihilated a 9-man Besiktas 6-0. Andreas Beck was given marching orders in 29 minutes while Vincent Aboubakar was shown the red card on 56 minutes after two bookings (30’ and 56’). Artem Besedin (9′), Andriy Yarmolenko (30′ PEN), Vitaliy Buyalskiy (32′), Derlis Gonzalez (45’+3′), Serhiy Sydorchuk (60′) and Moraes (77′) were the goal-scorers for Dynamo Kiev.
Napoli and Benfica progress to the next round of this competition while Besiktas enters in UEFA Europa League’s round of 32.
