Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul has been fined by the IPL governing council for maintaining a slow over rate in their narrow win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2023 on April 19 in Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh stadium.
While chasing 155 runs, a partnership of 87 runs between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, the RR openers gave the team a strong start. With 24 deliveries left, RR needed 48 to win thanks to the LSG bowlers’ strong performance in the middle overs.
Avesh Khan was able to protect those runs despite being hit for a four off the first delivery after a few strong overs leaving the home team needing 19 runs to win from the final six deliveries. Devdutt Padikkal scored 26 and Riyan Parag was still in the game at 15, but RR concluded the game on 144/6 and lost by 10 runs.
The LSG team’s victory, however, came at a price as skipper KL Rahul was assessed a 12 lakh rupee fine for slow overeating.
“Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Wednesday. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” IPL statement said.
Kyle Mayers’ Brilliant Half-Century On Difficult Pitch Helps LSG Post 154/7
Earlier, Sanju Samson opted to field first and his bowlers managed to restrict LSG to 154/7 in 20 overs. Kyle Mayers top scored with 51 and KL Rahul made 39 in 32 balls, while Nicolas Pooran made 29 in the final overs. LSG had made a solid start with their openers adding 82 runs in 10.3 overs before being separated.
For RR, Ravichandran Ashwin picked 2 wickets, while Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Jason Holder picked a wicket apiece.
