Three-time European Cup champions Manchester United made a return in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with an easy 3-0 victory against FC Basel.
After a strong start, substitute Marouane Fellaini scored the opening goal for the hosts Manchester United on 35 minutes, who had replaced injured Paul Pogba on 19 minutes. During the opening goal, Ashley Young produced a perfect cross for Fellaini who sent home with a close-range header.
United’s new signing Romelu Lukaku continued his recent superb form as he made a 2-0 scoreline for the hosts on 53 minutes with another header from the Daley Blind’s cross.
Marcus Rashford stretched the hosts’ lead to 3-0 on 84 minutes with a perfect finish.
Benfica 1 (Haris Seferovic 50′) – CSKA Moscow 2 (Vitinho 63′ PEN; Timur Zhamaletdinov 71′)
After falling behind 1-0, CSKA Moscow snatched a victory against the hosts Benfica. After the first half ended in a goalless draw, Haris Seferovic put the hosts 1-0 ahead in the 5th minutes of the second half.
On 63 minutes, CSKA Moscow won a penalty after the hosts’ defender Andre Almeida comitted a handball inside the penalty box. Vitinho converted that penalty to a goal as they leveled the scoreline (1-1).
On 71 minutes, Substitute Timur Zhamaletdinov scored the winning goal for CSKA Moscow from the following corner.
