Before the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Guinea had made four appearances in the FIFA U-17 World Cup competitions. They had managed to cross the group stage only once in 1985, where they had reached semi-finals but lost the next two games (semi-final and third place play-off) as finished in the fourth place.

i) The Journey: Guinea secured their place for the upcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup after reaching the semi-finals of 2017 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. In the semi-final match, Guinea had lost against Mali in a penalty shoot-out [Mali 0 (2) – Guinea 0 (0)]. However, Guinea finished in the third place after beating Niger by 3-1 in the next playoff game.
