The United States is one of the regular teams in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Apart from the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, United States have qualified in all the editions of the tournament. United States had the best result in 1999 U-17 World Cup where they had finished in fourth place after reaching the semi-finals.

  • Present Status (for 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup)

i) The Journey: United States have qualified for the upcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup through the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, where they had finished as a runner-up after losing the final match against Mexico that decided in a penalty shoot-out [the United States 1(4) – Mexico 1(5)].

 

ii) Head Coach: John Hackworth (Nationality – United States) is managing this team since the end of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Previously, the United States had played under his coaching during 2005 and 2007 U-17 World Cup.

Hackworth believes in counter-attacking football, Hackworth’s standard formation is 4-4-2.

Josh Sargent (Present Club – St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club)

Josh is a highly talented forward. During the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, Sargent had scored five goals which secured his place for 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Sargent’s performances were impressive too in that U-20 World Cup competition where he had scored total four goals. After Freddy Adu, Sargent is going to become the second United States player to play FIFA U-17 World Cup and FIFA U-20 World Cup in the same year.

German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has recently announced that they will sign Josh Sargent once he turns the age of 18 in next February.
