Premier League struggling sides Everton and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Thomas Muller. German media has reported that both the clubs are looking to approach Bundesliga giants this month to learn the availability of a World Cup-winning star.

The 32-year-old versatile midfielder started his career at Bayern Munich in 2008 and since then has been a crucial part of their domestic and European success. Muller has scored 223 goals and assisted 238 more in 610 overall appearances for Bavaria. Muller has won 30 trophies with German giants including 10 Bundesliga and 2 Champions League titles. He also won the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and was awarded the Golden Ball for his heroics in World Cup 2010.

Muller continues his form this season with 6 goals and shocking 16 assists in just 20 Bundesliga matches. He is close to breaking his own league assists record of 22 with 14 matches still remaining. But he has just 18 months remaining on his contract and there are no reports on any plans to extend his Allianz Arena stay. There are rumours flying around that Muller is expecting a new challenge after spending 14 years with Bayern Munich.

Everton And Newcastle United To Bid For Thomas Muller?

Noted journalist, Christian Falk, who is a correspondent for Bayern Munich at Bild, has posted a tweet that confirms Everton and Newcastle United’s interest in Thomas Muller. This is a surprising development for Bayern fans who are definitely hoping their favourite star to retire at Allianz Arena after three-four years. Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann recently talked about Thomas Muller’s future and was confident that the player will stay at least 2-4 years with them.

‘He is a very important player, especially when the stadium is empty, his emotionality has a special task. He’ll manage two to four more years. We make sure that he gets his breaks. Of course, that doesn’t always go down well with the fans.’ – Julian Nagelsmann on Thomas Muller.

Both Everton and Newcastle United are struggling this season and are involved in a relegation battle already. Signing any big-name player will surely boost their chances to survive the Premier League relegation. But both teams, specifically the Magpies, are failing to attract high profile players this month despite their huge contract offers. Eddie Howe has already signed Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier this month for a combined fee of £38 million.

The Magpies can definitely afford any wage demands by the German ace, due to being the richest club in the world, but it will not be enough to convince the players to join a relegation bound side. Howe has given new hope to fans with a draw and win in the last two league matches, which has boosted them from 20th to 18th position. They are facing Everton at home in their next match and a win will surely guide them out of the relegation zone. But quality signings are much needed at St James’ Park in the next 4 days as the transfer window closes on midnight 31st January.
