India’s hockey captain and star midfielder Sardar Singh, who found his love Ashpal Kapur on social networking website Facebook, will tie the knot after the 2016 Rio Olympics, as per several media reports.
Sardar claimed: “I was reading the messages when I noticed a post saying ‘Sardar Singh you are a great player, I love you’ by someone called Ashpal Kaur.”
The hockey star, at first, ignored did the messages as it is not unusual for sports celebrities to get such messages from fan, but when she continued bombarding the messages, Sardar was compelled to ask her whereabouts.
Ashpal, who is now his fiancée, said she was from London and is a former U19 hockey player from England and on top of that she is a Sikh.
Indian captain then decided to meet her during the 2012 London Olympics, but as luck would have it failed to do so.
However, that did not deter Sardar’s spirit, as the duo continued to exchange text messages, emails. The relationship then got so strong that they started chatting on long distance calls and finally decided to meet.
Sardar then went to UK to meet Ashpal and her family. Sardar discovered that she is a daughter of a hockey coach. On returning to India, he told his family about that girl. His family also approved the relationship as both were Sikhs.
Now the couple has decided to marry after 2016 Rio Olympics. “We are waiting for them at Santnagar and are keen to solemnise the wedding as soon as possible. The dates will be fixed soon,” Sardar’s father Gurnam Singh said.
