India‘s emerging leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi believes that KL Rahul would have suggested his name to the Lucknow franchise as he was one of the three players picked by the newly inducted franchise. On Friday, the Lucknow franchise made an official announcement that their drafted picks ahead of the auction will be KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi.

Bishnoi is quite thrilled about the opportunity and he is again looking forward to play under the captaincy of KL Rahul. Bishnoi represented Punjab Kings in two seasons as he picked 24 wickets in 23 matches with an economy of 6.97.

“It’s a proud moment for me, my coaches and family as I am one of those few players among the world’s best picked by the franchise before the mega auction. Aur mereko lagta hain Rahul bhai ne bola hoga mere liye (I have a feeling Rahul must have suggested my name to the Lucknow franchise management). Now my focus is on doing even better for my new IPL team and helping them win games,” Ravi Bishnoi spoke to Times of India.

He also cherished the memories of playing for Punjab Kings. Bishnoi said that he received immense backing from the captain and the coach.

“I was given an opportunity to play in the very first season I was picked by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2020. Throughout my two-year stint with them, I have received immense backing both from captain Rahul bhai and Anil Kumble sir (the director of cricket operations for PBKS). It was a big exposure for me as a youngster and it added to my confidence as a bowler,” he added.

Bishnoi emerged as a big sensation when he finished as leading wicket-taker in the U-19 World Cup 2020. India finished as runners-up but Bishnoi picked 17 wickets in 6 games which included three 4-fers.

Bishnoi bagged the deal of 4 crores however he is not much focused on money as yet. He wants as many opportunities to play.

“Money matters, but it is more important for any young player to get an opportunity to play at this level and showcase his skill. Paisa baad main bhi kamaya jaa sakta hain (money can be earned later as well)” he concluded.
