Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tilak Varma has praised the MI franchise, after playing a cameo of 37 (17) against SunRisers Hyderabad ( SRH), with his quick-fire innings, MI posted 192/5, whereas SRH were bowled out for 178 in 19.5 overs, as MI wins back-to-back three games in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

“The first season (2022), I was a youngster, but since then, I always had the team back me. They don’t see me as a youngster or a newcomer to the team. They always help me mature as a player. So it was pretty easy for me to manage, unlike the first year,” said MI star batter.
The left handed-batter was purchased by the five-times champion for INR 1.7 crore before the 2022 edition, after his impeccable performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and U-19 World Cup in 2020, while in MI’s tournament opener in IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he scored unbeatable 84 runs, and in five matches so far he has managed 214 runs.
“The team (Mumbai Indians) treat me in a way that I never feel like I’m playing the IPL or any other tournament for the first time. Being amongst the God of Cricket (Sachin Tendulkar), the Indian captain (Rohit Sharma) and everyone, I feel confident and comfortable with them,” he further added.

While against SRH, in his 37-run knock, he smashed four sixes and two fours, the southpaw batter plays for Hyderabad in domestic cricket and has so far scored 611 runs in the 19 games it played in IPL, in the last edition Rohit Sharma-led side however ended in last position but he scored 397 runs in 14 games.
“Sachin sir told me to have a clear mindset, whether you score runs or not. Rohit sir said, put a smile on your face and give your 100 percent into what you are doing, then the rest will all go fine,” concluded Varma.
While in his match-winning cameo against SRH, during the second strategic time-out in MI’s innings, he was seen discussing with Veteran Indian cricketer and MI’s star ‘mentor’ Sachin Tendulkar, which clearly shows how Tilak enjoys playing in the Mumbai-based side.
Now in IPL 2023, after winning three games in five matches, MI will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 22 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
