Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder, Rahul Tewatia has revealed that he gave a pep talk to pacer Yash Dayal after the GT pacer was hit by five sixes by Rinku Singh in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as the opposition chased down 29 runs in the last over. Eventually, with Rinku’s heroics, KKR chased down the target of 205 runs with three wickets in hand, while Yash gave away 69 runs in 4 overs.

Tewatia stated that he advised the left-arm seamer to work on executing things that he got wrong in the match against KKR and wait for his chance, while the 25-year-old was given the player of the match for his 48*(21) figure.

Rahul Tewatia opened up about his chat with Yash Dayal after the KKR game-

When I spoke to him, I told him that you will feel low only if you allow yourself to do so. It was only one bad game. In this Gujarat Titans environment, no one will make you feel low. Practice what you could not execute and wait for your chance.

You never know how strong the comeback can be. It’s a nothing to lose situation because nothing worse can happen. His mindset is quite good,” said the left-handed batter.

While the 25-year-old produced arguably the greatest finish in the history of IPL and became the first-ever player in T20 history to smash five sixes in the last over to a successful chase.

Last season, he was one of our main bowlers. He had a big role to play in us becoming champions. He was claiming wickets with the new ball and doing very well with the old ball as well.

One match cannot change anything.”The kind of environment we have at GT, I don’t think anyone would have even discussed it with him or offered sympathy to him. If he thinks a lot about it, only then negativity can creep in,” he further added.

Rinku Singh played an astonishing knock of 48* in 21 balls with 6 sixes and 1 four to his name. He was at the crease with 48 runs needed in 18 balls in the end. Earlier, while chasing a 205-run target, Venkatesh Iyer’s 83 and captain Nitish Rana’s 45 had given a glimmer of hope to KKR fans despite the loss of early wickets.

However, the Aligarh-born cricketer showed great valour and courage to hit a six and a four in the 19th over and when 28 were needed off the last five balls, the left-hander did the unthinkable and smashed Yash Dayal for five sixes, to take KKR to victory with three wickets to spare, as the first ball of the last over was gone for single.

While, GT won their last fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets, whereas, Yash was dropped from this fixture.
