As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is just around the corner, former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag predicted Ishan Kishan’s name instead of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the upcoming ODI World Cup, as Sehwag thinks Ishan will have to perform better in the IPL 2023 for the place in playing XI in WC.
The 24-year-old, Ishan had a terrible season in IPL 2022, with Mumbai Indians (MI) finishing at the bottom of the 10-team table. While, the Rohit Sharma-led franchise managed to register only eight points in 14 games, winning only four matches and losing 10, while Gaikwad last played for Team India on October 2022.

Virender Sehwag felt Ishan Kishan has to prove in IPL 2023-
“Initially, I was first thinking about Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Ishan Kishan hasn’t scored much runs lately then he hasn’t been getting many chances in the Indian team,”
“So he will be aiming to perform well in this IPL, so that he gets selected for the 50-Over World Cup and after that also gets chances to play in T20Is,” said former Indian cricketer.
Young Indian batsman Ishan Kishan broke Chris Gayle’s record for scoring the fastest double century in the ODI, Ishan hit 200 runs in just 126 balls, while Gayle’s’ record for scoring a double ton was 138 balls. With this knock, the wicketkeeper batter becomes the seventh person in the world and fourth from India after Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag to achieve this milestone. He achieves this feat in the third and final ODI match against Bangladesh.

In the recently concluded ODI series against Australia in March 2023, the 24-year-old was given a chance to open with Gill but was dismissed for three runs off eight balls, in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the first ODI.
While in his IPL career, Kishan has scored 1870 runs in 75 games, packed with 12 fifties, he debuted in 2016 for Gujarat Lions. Meanwhile, IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31, with defending champions Gujarat Titans facing Chennai Super Kings in the opening game, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Whereas, MI will open their campaign on April 2 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in Bengaluru.
