India is leading the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) by 2-0 against Australia. Now, Team India will be up against Pat Cummins-led side for the third test match at Indore beginning on 1st March. Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev when asked about Rohit Sharma’s fitness insisted that the current Indian captain needs to work on his fitness.

Kapil Dev said it is more important to be fit as a captain for Rohit Sharma-

It is very important (to be fit). More so for a captain. It’s a shame if you are not fit. Rohit needs to put some hard work on it,” said the former Indian all-rounder.

He is a great batter but when you talk about his fitness, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, it’s different when you look at someone on TV and then in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit. Look at Virat, whenever you see him, you say, ‘that’s some fitness,” added the Indian veteran cricketer.

India’s all-format skipper scored a match-winning century in the first Test match of the series against Australia. Rohit made a return to the Indian Test team after nearly 11 months in the BGT series against Australia. The top-order batter’s last appearance in the longer format of the game came against Sri Lanka in March 2022.

The 35-year-old also missed the rescheduled fifth Test against England due to a Covid-19 infection, and later remained absent from the two-Test series against Bangladesh in December 2022 due to a finger injury.

Rohit Sharma-led side won the last test match at Delhi by six wickets against the Aussies. Team India will now be looking to win the third test match of four test match series to secure their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
