IND VS AUS: Virat Kohli- India won the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in style at Nagpur. Men in Blue defeated the Australian side by an inning and 132 runs at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar said after the match that Kohli is expected to score in every match because of his stature in international cricket.

India’s talisman Virat Kohli was dismissed for 12 runs by leg spinner Tod Murphy in the first test match, Kohli got a thick nick while flicking Murphy’s delivery and was caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey behind the wicket.

Gavaskar backs Kohli for a century in the next match:

But this was just one inning and I feel the century comeback can be a possibility at his home ground in Delhi“, said former Indian opener Gavaskar. India’s run machine Kohli last scored a test century in 2019 against Bangladesh. Former captain of the Indian cricket team Kohli has been in great form in limited overs cricket, he scored his 46th ODI ton against Srilanka in January 2023.

Virat Kohli averages 48.68 in 105 test matches for India. Kohli has scored 1694 runs against Kangaroos in test matches with seven centuries in a total of 37 innings for the Asian giants. While on home soil, the right-hand batter has scored 3859 runs in 47 matches with 13 hundred for the Men in Blue. In the current bunch of players, the 34-year-old Kohli is behind England’s Joe Root (28) and Australia’s Steve Smith (30) with his 27 test match tons.

In the Australia tour of India 2023, the Rohit Sharma-led side took the 1-0 lead against the Aussie. Earlier in the match, Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first against the host nation. Visitors were bowled out for 177 runs in the first innings, while the Indian team posted a huge total of 400 runs in the first innings with the help of a brilliant century by skipper Rohit Sharma.

On the 3rd day, the Australian team were bowled out for 91 runs in 32.3 overs in their second innings and the South Asian side took the 1-0 lead in the four test matches series.

India will face Australia in the second test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi from Friday ( 17th February).
