Promising star Shubman Gill had a brief stint for Glamorgan in the 2022 season. He became the third Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri to play for the Welsh. When I look at Shubman, I think he has a world at his feet. He is obviously a hugely talented individual. His technique is pure; it is wonderful,” said Maynard.

An excellent basic technique where the bat-pad is balanced. His weight transfer against seamers is so good that it looks like he was born with a bat in his hand. He is a beautiful batsman to watch,” he added.

In India’s first innings, Gill completed his second century in test matches–and his first on his home soil. His 128 runs of 235 balls included 12 boundaries and one six. In his memorable knock, he also joined the elite list of players to score a ton in all formats of the game.

His composure doesn’t seem to get ruffled; nothing seems to bother him. I believe he is going to be an Indian great, following in the footsteps of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli,” he further added.

In the ongoing BGT 2023 test series, the 23-year-old replaced out-of-form Rahul in the third test. Although Gill didn’t score big in the third test match at Delhi, Indian skipper Rohit believed in the youngster and played him at Ahmedabad. Previously, many former cricketers and media have criticized Kl  Rahul’s unimpressive performances for the last few years, especially in the longer format of the game.

Shubman can bat anywhere, and it is up to the head coach and his coaching staff. India needs to do what they think is best for the national side in Test match cricket. But I don’t think he needs protection. He is a very good batsman, and once he gets over that new ball, he is someone who can set the tone for the team,” stated former England cricketer.

Gill Smsashed his maiden hundred against Sussex in county cricket, he played only four innings (3 matches) for Glamorgan but came back as a different cricketer after playing in England’s domestic cricket tournament. In his Cardiff-based side stint, he accumulated 244 runs at an average of 61.00.

I do see elements of other batsmen but not like a copy. He reminds you of Dravid because he is tall, and when he plays that clip shot, you will be like oh there is a bit of Dravid in that. When he plays that cover drive, there’s a bit of Sachin in it as well,” concluded Glamorgan head coach.

Whereas, Men in Blue will be looking to win the Ahmedabad Test on Day 5 (March 13) to be fully assured of qualification to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, while the visitors have already reached the WTC Final after avoiding the clean sweep in the series. Rohit Sharma-led side has the unbeatable lead of 2-1 in the four-test match series against the Aussies.

Meanwhile, in the fourth Test of BGT, at stumps on Day 4, Australia were 3/0 in their second innings, while India took the 91-run lead after managing 571 runs in their first innings.
