IPL 2022 Likely To Start On March 27 1

BCCI has started working things out to start the IPL 2022 on March 27 and it’s likely to conclude in the last week of May. According to a report in Telegraph India, the BCCI held an online meeting with the franchise owners on Saturday in which the venue for the upcoming edition was the main discussion point. The meeting was also attended by all BCCI office-bearers and IPL governing council members.

In all likelihood, 4 venues across Mumbai and Pune have been identified as the first choice venue to host the upcoming edition. South Africa has been kept as a standby option.

As reported by Telegraph India, the meeting was attended by all franchise owners including Akash Ambani (Mumbai Indians), N. Srinivasan (Chennai Super Kings), Shah Rukh Khan (Kolkata Knight Riders), Preity Zinta (Punjab Kings), Kiran Grandhi and Parth Jindal (Delhi Capitals), Manoj Badale (Rajasthan Royals) and Sanjiv Goenka (Lucknow).

IPL 2022 is likely to be hosted in 4 venues across Mumbai and Pune

It has been unanimously decided to host the tournament in Maharashtra. The option of UAE has also been discussed where previous two seasons were held during Covid times but some franchises complained that it’s way too costly and also with 10-teams in this season, 3 venues (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah) won’t be enough.

Another factor that also ruled the UAE option out was the toss factor. Some franchises pointed out that in the last T20 World Cup which was held in UAE, the toss played a huge role in the outcome of the result as there is an undue advantage for the team batting second.

So three venues in Mumbai- Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium and one in Pune- Maharashtra Cricket Association are identified as 4 venues. It also means that there will be no air travel needed which was one of the main reasons for a covid outbreak inside bio-bubble last season. BCCI will make an official announcement around February 20 regarding venues.

A total of 74 matches will be played as 10 teams will be divided into two groups. Meanwhile, the mega auction will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
