Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach, Dwayne Bravo has urged his side’s pacers to bowl more yorkers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In his playing days during his brief stint for CSK, Bravo mastered this art and was a crucial weapon for MS Dhoni-led side. He, however, was not expressed pace but was beneficial for his side in death overs.

The Chennai-based side won their last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Chennai by 12 runs. The star West Indies all-rounder last played for CSK in the 2022 edition, after that he took the coaching role for 4-time champions.

CSK’s veteran Dwayne Bravo considered bowling at death to be an art-

There is a secret formula for bowling at the death. There is a particular template to follow, we all in the bowling group (Eric Simons) and the coach (Stephen Fleming) are on the same page and understand the philosophy of bowling. So it’s a work in progress.

“It is impossible to try and coach the players the way I did in my time when I used to play and bowl in the back (death). They (bowlers) have to develop their own style and we have to encourage them and stick to the basics. We bowled like three yorkers and it’s very important to improve that,” said Bravo.

Earlier, Deepak Chahar said that their bowling coach Dwayne Bravo has been very helpful to the bowlers–and he could like to pick some tips to improve his bowling, especially his death bowling.

Deepak Chahar went wicketless for Chennai Super Kings in both encounters against Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants but bowled brilliantly to concede only 29 runs from 4 overs against Gujarat. He went for 55 runs in the 4 overs against Lucknow with Kyle Mayers taking him to the cleaners.

At this moment, if you don’t have pace and bowl a yorker, you will not survive. Unless you bowl really quick like 150-plus kph, you will not survive and even if you bowl at 150-plus kph, there comes a moment when you really have to rely on your yorker.

“It’s the most difficult to bowl and the safest option whenever you are under pressure in the back end of the innings. Yorkers are go-to balls once you are able to execute, it’s impossible for a batter to hit,” he further added.

Now, with one win and one loss this season, CSK is looking to overcome their shortcoming from the last, where they finished in the second-last position on the points table. So far, the Chennai’s spin trio has shined and their pacer with the likes of youngsters Tushar Deshpande and Chahar has to show their potential.

Meanwhile, CSK will clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) for their next game in IPL 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
