IPL Chairman, Arun Dhumal termed hosting WPL as the biggest challenge-

Well begun is half done. It has been a great beginning for WPL and going forward it is going to be much better than what we have seen so far.

We have started with five teams but going forward there is scope for additional team given the pool of the players that is going to come in the years to follow,” said the IPL chairman.

While MI win the inaugural edition of the WPL by beating the Delhi-based side by 7 wickets in the Finals, DC played very well in the league stage but failed in the finals against Mumbai. The Mumbai-based franchise was dominant throughout the team producing scintillating performances in the league.

We are hoping increase in the number of teams but for the coming three seasons will remain five. We are surely looking at home and away format, we will see which time slot is available considering India’s international commitment and take a call.
From a fan engagement point of view it is very important that we go for home and away format,” he further added.
While on the historic final on March 26, in the Brabourne Stadium, MI dominated the proceeding by reducing DC to 79-9 in 16 overs, followed by a terrific partnership between Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav in the last wicket for Delhi Capitals to take their team to a respectable total of 131 runs.
Our national team has done very well over the last couple of years. U-19 girls won the World Cup. Given how the WPL was received, we are very hopeful that we will have a bigger pool of players and their fitness and fielding standard will improve immensely going forward,” concluded Dhumal on WPL.
Chasing a modest total of 132 runs, Indians lost their openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews for just 23 runs followed by Nat Sciver-Brunt stitching a crucial 72-run stand with Harmanpreet Kaur for the third wicket which eventually helped Mumbai Indians to win the trophy.
