Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma stressed workload management in Indian Premier League (IPL), but now former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar came in support of a different franchise and stated that they spend money, so they should have the freedom to play their bought players in the season.

Earlier, Rohit said after the conclusion of the ODI series against Australia, that it is all up to franchises now, as BCCI has already issued the advisory.

Rohit Sharma on workload management in IPL-

I mean, it’s all up to the franchises now, the franchises own them [the players] now, so we’ve given some indications or some kind of borderline kind of thing to the teams. But at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchise and, most importantly it’s the players you know, they have to take care of their own body,” Rohit said after the completion of the 3rd ODI against Australia.

Sanjay Manjrekar wants IPL should be given a special status-

IPL’s success is largely dependent on players’ fitness, and that everyone plays to their best potential,”

Fans love this tournament, it’s quite popular, so, I’m not a fan of players resting during the IPL so that they can play the World Cup. Because see, the players can get injured even during international matches. Anything can happen,” said the Ex-Indian cricketer.

For the first time, it is reported that BCCI made it mandatory for IPL teams to provide reports on Indian players’ workloads during IPL to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), as World Test Championship (WTC) final and ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held this year.

There should be no restrictions on players in IPL. Owners spend money on them and they should have the freedom to use a player as much as they want. IPL should be given a special status in that regard,” added Manjrekar.

Whereas, former Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri has voiced his opinion that BCCI should notify different IPL franchises about the probable WTC final players in their squads so that they are not overcooked during this session. While IPL 2023 kicks off on March 31 with the opening game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

After the conclusion of the IPL on May 28, Team India will be up against Australia in the WTC Final on June 7 at the Oval.
