John Cena is not only available for the biggest event of the year but also reportedly going to be in action at this year’s WrestleMania. If the latest reports from Wrestling Observer Radio are to go by the uncertainties around the former franchise player’s status are not uncertain, anymore. He is not going to feature in a one-off appearance but rather compete in a match after two years.

John Cena Vs. Goldberg Can Happen At WWE Wrestlemania 36

It’s likely that his return on February 28 episode of Friday Night SmackDown will begin a storyline for his upcoming match. Prior to this, WWE stated the following on the return of John Cena ahead of Wrestlemania 36,

“John Cena will return to SmackDown on Friday, Feb. 28, as Team Blue continues down The Road to WrestleMania.

An icon in the ring and the star of such blockbuster films as “Bumblebee,” “Blockers” and the upcoming “F9: The Fast Saga,” Cena will soon bring his signature “Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect” back to SmackDown, as first reported by WWE Backstage on FS1.”

As per the latest updates from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, John Cena is reportedly going to wrestle at this year’s WrestleMania. He won’t be featuring in a one-off segment like he did, last year or in 2016 alongside The Rock. The upcoming appearance on SmackDown on February 28th is going to start the angle for the 16-time world champion.

Dave Meltzer continued discussing the matter through his report but initially hesitated on giving out the potential WrestleMania opponent’s name for John Cena. He mentioned this could be “so underwhelming, it’s ridiculous.” Based on what Meltzer said, his co-host on WOR Bryan Alvarez guessed Baron Corbin or Elias would become the opponent.

Then Meltzer revealed that it’s not Corbin but Elias who WWE was scheduling as Cena’s opponent. WWE’s current mentality is that Elias will “get the rub from losing to Cena.”

However, the fans would be unhappy to see John Cena facing a rarely used talent like Elias competing against a legendary name at the showcase of immortals where the stage is much bigger. Icons are meant to be set at an event like this and it’ll be disappointing if WWE creative team does not make full use of it.
