Drew McIntyre won the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match to gift himself a World Championship match shot at WrestleMania 36. Thus he also earned the right to be called himself a main-eventer for the biggest event of the year.
The very next night on WWE Raw, Drew McIntyre then challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship as that match has been made official for WrestleMania 36. Fans were much pleased to get this match booked for the ‘show of shows’ as this would get the spotlight on the young contender who is looking forward to building himself as a top name. It is also special since the challenger is getting his very first singles prime title opportunity in the WWE.
WWE Still Hopeful To Get John Cena For A Role At WrestleMania 36
With that being said, the expectation was that Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre will be the main event of WrestleMania 36 which means it will close the show. But that may not be the case as the WWE Chairman is not convinced with the lineup. He wants his trusted shoulder, Roman Reigns to be on that spot.
Sheamus to get a big title match at WWE WrestleMania 36?
According to Tom Colohue, Vince McMahon is still favoring to host The Fiend vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship as the main event match at Wrestlemania 36. It will be the match to close out the show making Reigns a fifth main-eventer at the grandest stage of them all,
“WWE sources have made it clear to me that Paul Heyman is campaigning heavily to have McIntyre main event WrestleMania. Vince McMahon’s preference for the event’s main event is still believed to be Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt.”
We should note in this context that Royal Rumble winners in the recent past have not been able to get the real main event spotlight. (Randy Orton in 2017, Shinsuke Nakamura in 2018 and Seth Rollins in 2019) They have not featured is the final match on the WrestleMania card and the tradition is likely to continue with Drew McIntyre in 2020.
On a recent episode of WWE’s The Bump, Drew McIntyre revealed that he was knocked out for sometimes during Royal Rumble 2020. Aleister Black’s ‘Black Mass’ kick caught him clean in the face to put him in a senseless position for sometimes before he got back into the match. Thereafter, he eliminated Roman Reigns to become the Rumble winner.
