Mouma Das, the ace female table tennis player from Bengal is all set to touch an invaluable achievement in the next month. Once the 31-year old player will step onto the court in the Commonwealth Games Table Tennis championship, to be held in Surat, Mouma will touch the record of country’s legendary female table tennis player Indu Puri who has earned gold medals in Commonwealth games TT 14 times! Mouma Das, who has already 29 gold medals in her kitty only from the National Table Tennis championships in her last 20 years’ participation, has also bagged 13 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games TT.
Mouma, speaking on the issue, looked extremely affable and said, “I do not think over these achievements. Rather all the time my focus is set on the transformation of the game I have been watching in last 10 years.”
Explaining about the transformation, Mouma commented, “Recently a new ball, named Poly has been introduced in the international championships. And this ball is lighter than the previous ball we used to play. Naturally, this ball comes slow to the racket and it generates more spin than on the previous ball. So now I have been trying to cop up with the new ball through extensive training under the observation of my coach Abhijit Chowdhury. So, I do not have time to think over records and achievements. Still, if I can earn gold in the forthcoming Commonwealth TT and touch Indu Puri’s feat then it must be a great achievement for me.”
