PSL 2023: Mir Hamza: Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 kicked off on 13th February, in the 2nd game of the tournament between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings on 14th February at National Stadium in Karachi, Kings’ left arm pacer Mir Hamza injured his left arm while attempting to stop Babar Azam straight drive during his follow-through.

Hamza’s attempt eventually ran out non-striker batter Saim Ayub but he is out of the remaining part of the tournament. The 22-year-old Akif Javed replaces Karachi’s injured pacer Hamaza in the squad.

The 30-year-old Hamza bowled another eight balls in the match after getting injured, he took one wicket in two overs by giving 13 runs in his spell. Hamza dismissed Peshawar’s opener Mohammed Haris for 10 runs by LBW decision.

The left-arm pacer Javed has previously been part of Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United squads in the PSL. The tall lad from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has taken 33 T20 wickets in 31 matches and bowls at an economy of 8.48. He represents the Balochistan squad in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy ( Pakistan domestic first-class tournament).

While in the high-scoring contest between two former champions in PSL 2023, Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by 2 runs. Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first, Zalmi batted first and scored 199 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Peshawar’s skipper Babar Azam scored a brilliant 68 runs, he was accompanied by England’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore with his 92 runs in 50 balls.

Karachi’s skipper Imad Wasim’s brilliant 80 runs got in vain as his side ended up with 197 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Pakistan’s former skipper Shoaib Malik also scored a brilliant fifty but was dismissed by Wahab Riaz for 52 runs. Last edition runner-ups Multan Sultans is at the top of the points table of PSL 8 with one win and one loss out of the two matches they placed.

While Peshawar is in second position and Karachi is positioned in 4th spot in the PSL 2023 points table so far. Kings will face Islamabad United for the 4th match of the PSL 8 on Thursday ( 16th February) at their home ground. Babar Azam-led Zalmi will face Multan Sultans at Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday ( 17th Ferbruary).
