WWE released 4 wrestlers recently who are Luke Harper, Sin Cara, Konnor & Viktor of The Ascension. All of them seemed unhappy with their career in the company which led them to the expected departure.
This also fell under WWE’s annual policy of trimming down the roster where unwanted names are shown the doors. They can’t start competing immediately at the indie scenes or somewhere else since WWE put the 90-day ‘no-compete clause’ that ends in March 2020.
Updates are now available on why WWE may have decided to release these wrestlers. According to WrestlingNews.co, the officials wanted to spend the money somewhere else which could benefit them in the future.
They were always open to settling these releases to ‘free up’ some money so that they could offer better deals to other mid-card / top talents whom they want to keep.
They do not want the superstars to join the All Elite Wrestling promotions, by any means. They have chosen those superstars only who have the least chances to join WWE’s current rival brand.
Here’s what the source stated,
“A WWE source told me that another reason why the company is more open to releasing some wrestlers is that it helps them cut down on salaries while freeing up more money to offer deals to mid and upper card wrestlers who they don’t want to leave the company.”
Updated reports suggested these might not be the only names who were chosen to leave the WWE. According to the Wrestling Observer, more releases are coming soon.
Whereas no certain name was confirmed, Mike Kanellis is the potential name who might get released from the contract.
Mike and his wife, Maria Kanellis have signed a 5-year deal, worth $250,000 per year back in summer 2019. This was an indication that they were happy with their position in the company. But soon Maria got pregnant and Mike requested his leave stunning the WWE Universe.
WWE has kept Mike Kanellis in hold for quite sometimes who seemed to be willing to explore more opportunities around the world. If WWE wants to free up some more money then they could finally be granting his wish in future.
