The Undertaker is being talked all over the pro-wrestling circuit from Sunday Night onwards as he decided to phase out of his in-ring career in WWE. He mentioned that the match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 night I, was the last time that he featured in a match and after that great experience he had no intention to come back to in-ring capacity.
While The Undertaker bids adieu to the squared circle, WWE wrestlers started recounting the memories they had with him. WWE Superstar and mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, Kane (Glenn Jacobs) was recently interviewed by Yahoo Sports where he talked about his own career and The Last Ride documentary.
Has The Undertaker Really Retired From WWE In-Ring Competition?
The Big Red Machine recalled how The Undertaker was the sole reason behind this character was ever born. He said the pressure was immense to make the Kane gimmick a successful one in the WWE because he was getting attached to the very best that is the Deadman.
“Originally, my whole storyline and the Kane character was kind of thrown together to give Undertaker an opponent,” Kane recalled. “Vince liked the idea so much that they decided to build an actual storyline behind it and character out of it.
The Undertaker Was Originally Set To Face THIS STAR At WWE Super Showdown
“From my perspective, I had to make it work. I didn’t want to let anyone down and I didn’t want to let Mark [Callaway] down. I thought I could do it, but realized I had to do it because of the pressure and that for me, it was my last chance. I figured I wouldn’t get another one.”
Kane’s debut happened during the first-ever Hell in a Cell March at the Bad Blood: In Your House pay-per-view event in 1997 where The Undertaker was battling Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. Kane made a sudden appearance as the brother of Taker whom Taker allegedly tried to finish off. The masked demon then went on to have a lengthy feud with his own flesh and blood and thus earned quite the reputation.
Jacobs also mentioned that he believes that the story between Kane and The Undertaker is the most natural angle to be produced in the WWE. These two had no brotherhood relation but people started to think these two as brothers following the storyline. Thus, Kane says it’s “the best, most epic storyline that has ever been done.” He also compared the storyline to Greek mythology.
“I think it’s the best, most epic storyline that has ever been done,” Kane said. “Really it was almost like you took Greek mythology and put it into wrestling with us. The thing is, everything was moving so quickly and we were so caught up in the moment that we saw it as just doing business and trying to compete with WCW and everyone else on the roster.
It was very internally competitive at the point. You had all of these people really pushing each other to provide the best product that we could, that was the focus. Now, you’re able to take a breath and look back and realize how amazing it is.”
