Shubman Gill is receiving praise from all over after his sensational century against New Zealand in the third and final T20I on Wednesday (February 1) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Batting superstar Virat Kohli has also lavished praise on his young teammate.
The highly-rated youngster scored his maiden T20I ton to power India to a series-clinching win over the Black Caps. Gill also became only the fifth Indian after Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to hit century in all the three formats of the game.
Gill played an unbeaten knock of 126 runs from just 63 balls with the help of 12 fours and 7 sixes. Thanks to his century and fine cameos from Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, India posted a mammoth total of 234 for 4 in the series-decider.
In reply, New Zealand came up with a horrific batting display and were all out for a humiliating total of just 66. Captain Pandya led the charge with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for just 16 runs. He was well assisted by the young trio of Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi as they picked up 2 wickets apiece.
Virat Kohli’s special praise for Shubman Gill:
Following Shubman Gill’s heroics in the third T20I, Virat Kohli has come up with a huge statement for the youngster. Soon after the game came to an end, Virat Kohli took to Instagram to congratulate Gill.
He took to his Instagram story and called Gill “Sitara” (star) and said that the “future is here”. At a time when India are keen to find the next flagbearer of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli has pretty much made it clear that Gill might be the man.
With the series now done and dusted, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and their teammates will now shift their focus on the upcoming crucial 4-match Test series against Australia. The much-anticipated series is scheduled to get underway on February 9 in Nagpur.
