All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out for the T20I series against West Indies. The 22-year old suffered a left hamstring muscle strain during fielding in the third ODI against West Indies. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been named as his replacement for the 3-match series.

The BCCI selection committee also named Rishabh Pant as the new vice-captain of the team as KL Rahul was already ruled out of the T20I series. The first match will be played on February 16 at Eden Gardens. The remaining two matches will also be played on the same ground on February 18 and 20.

Washington Sundar picked 4 wickets in the ODI series with an economy of 4.16

Sundar also missed out on the 3-match ODI series in South Africa as he was tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the tour. In the ODI series against West Indies, he made a comeback with decent success. He picked 4 wickets in 3 matches with an economy of 4.16 and also played a couple of good cameos with the bat.

In the IPL mega auction, Washington Sundar was picked Sunrisers Hyderabad at a price of 8.75 Crores. Previously he was associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Now he will report to NCA on Tuesday and is likely to spend 3 weeks there. He is all set to miss the T20I series against Sri Lanka as well. There is no official word yet on the schedule change for the series against Sri Lanka however it is learned that the T20I series will be played ahead of the test series.

It will be interesting to see the Indian spin attack in the two-match test series against Sri Lanka as all 4 frontline spinners- Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar have been on the injury list. The test series will be very crucial for India in the context of the ICC World Test Championship.
