Indian cricket has been blessed with tremendous batting stars in the past, who went on to captain India, with the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and from last decade majorly Virat Kohli and now Rohit Sharma.
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh predicted that Shubman Gill will not only go on to lead in the IPL, but in the coming years he will be captaining India.
Harbhajan Singh predicted the 23-year-old batter to lead the Men in Blue in coming years-
“Shubman Gill. Vo superstar hai (Shubman Gill, I have no doubt in my heart. He’s a superstar),” said former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan
“For me also, Shubman Gill. Mujhe lagta hai vo IPL mein he nahi, aage jaa ke India k kaptaan bhi banenge,” added former India off spinner.
The 23-year-old batter, Gill was in top form in limited-overs cricket for India, he also scored a 100 against Bangladesh in test matches in December last year. In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, the young lad from Punjab became the youngest to score a double hundred in a 50-over format.

“Prithvi Shaw. Abhi tak IPL ki history mai aisa hua nahi hai ki kisi ne 6 ball par 6 chauke maare ho. Vo ek he naam hai (Till date nobody has hammered six fours in six balls in IPL history. He is the only name),” said Virender Sehwag on the next batter who will rule in the coming years.
Prithvi Shaw in his debut match for India in 2018 became the youngest Indian to hit a test century after Sachin Tendulkar. The Mumbai-born cricketer also has achieved the unique feat of hitting six boundaries in an over, he achieved this record during the IPL 2021 match between the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. he hit KKR pacer Shivam Mavi for six back-to-back boundaries in the first over of the run chase.
Current Indian opener in test matches, KL Rahul is facing the heat due to his bad form, Rahul has been on the radar of media and former Indian cricketers for not scoring runs. Shubman Gill is in the squad and it is likely that he will play the remaining two matches left in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 against Australia.
India will take on Pat Cummins-led side for the third match at Indore on 1st March.
